Stories of Our Past: Part I
IN FOCUS
Taken in the conservative state of Chennai, India, this story is from a religious procession making its way clockwise around the walls of an ancient Hindu temple. The striking duality of the “V” shaped paint, both adorned on the child’s head and as a large-size mural on the temple wall is called “The Sri Vaishnava Urdhva Pundra” - which is also referred to as Sricharanam, or Namam, and is designed as two or three vertical lines resembling the letter U or Y, representing the feet of Lord Vishnu.
The child’s face speaks to me deeply about my own journey, and that which many of us go through in this world. Taught and conditioned to find our purpose through religion, but discovering moments along the journey to question, introspect, think, and have the courage to find a different path.
It’s my reminder of the never-ending process of learning, and un-learning. To remember that a different perspective will always exist if we choose to find it, and just maybe, finding spiritual solace in realizing that the mystery of this lifetime may simply be in discovery, and not an answer after all :)

Getting a frame is recommended. A general rule of thumb for mat frames (white border) is to ‘size up’ a few inches from the print dimensions. E.g.:

Frame size with matting: 20 x 28, 24 x 32
