Stories of Our Past: Part II

from $70.00

IN FOCUS

"Ashtanga Dandavat" the hindu practice of prostration where eight parts of body touch the ground simultaneously as a sign of respect — Uras (Chest), Shiras (Head), Drishti (Eyes), Manas (Attention), Vachana (Speech), Pada (Feet), Kara (Hand), Jahnu (Knee).

In this scene, a religious procession comes clockwise around the walls of a Hindu temple in Chennai, India.
Led by a group of chanting priests, they stop on the corner as one of the younger disciples pays his respects in full prostration.

Titled ‘stories of our past’, this scene will align deeply with those brought in faith, in all forms across the religions of this world. For me, it speaks deeply to the shackles that I’ve let go over time, as my consciousness grew beyond the boundaries of indoctrinated thought and action, as it started to learn more about this world and the many realities it contains.

Perhaps it may be true these priests have had their own journeys in discovery, and arrived here as their truth. But when i see these prostrating children, i ask myself - “will they ever have a chance to look beyond this, to really know?”
